BOC played at Lake Spivey (now a private subdivision) in Atlanta back in 73 (could have been earlier) and they continued to return on a regular basis. At one point Allen Lanier lived in Atlanta. In any case since that time I was able to see BOC many times and maybe only once did I ever see an "off show" - that was at Atlanta Stadium in 76 when the rain impacted the laser show and other technical difficulties emerged making for an abreviated set. Still they always managed to pull off good shows even when they had to play places like Six Flags. I've always been a supporter of this band because they definitely wrote some great songs that were wonderful and great to listen to. Last time I saw them was about 4 years ago at one of those Summer Music Festivals where they have like 50 bands. BOC opened up the Friday's night festivities. If I were to recommend some BOC records I would suggest starting with Secret Treaties or perhaps On Your Feet Or On Your Knees. That's going way back I know but that to me was when things were brewing well for them. I do like their Fires Of Unknown Origin era and can always find something I like off of most of their newer CDs. But for me - the 70s BOC was the tastiest stuff.

Hmmm. I am a big fan of BOC. While I never saw the band during their biggest era, I have seen them numerous times over the last 15 years. The band is great live. I love hearing them play the songs that no longer get any airtime on the radio such as "Joan Crawford" and "Veterans of the Psychic Wars". Yes, the band is older, but Buck and Eric are just as good if not better with age like a fine wine.

Just today i ran across a site called Jewsrock.org, explaining that BOC were the first to do it, and thus were responsible for all the umlauts in heavy metal rock band names...

Meanwhile, i dearly love a song by a band called Blotto -- "Metal Head" is a deadly but affectionate parody of metal and its excesses in the early days of mousse metal (MTV used clips [with other sound] from the video for it to advertise its metal program "Headbanger's Ball").

It features a killer (but totally irrelevant) solo by Buck Dharma hisself.

While typing this comment, i googled and found Blotto's website, www.blotto.net, where there was a (broken, dammit) link to an mp3 of another band doing a song that morphed BOC[s "Dragon Lady" and Blotto's "I Wanna be a Lifeguard"(!)

Bobby:

Have you ever heard from your uncle about the great SNL/Christopher Walken bit with Blue Oyster Cult ("I Could Have Used A Little More Cowbell")?
